Béla Fleck and Abigail Washburn with Del McCoury and David Grisman
Presented by GW Lisner
Friday, October 31, 2014 - 8:00pm
Banjoists Béla Fleck and Abigail Washburn have mastered the deceptively intricate art of the duet. Their performances embrace a diversity almost unthinkable - coming from just two banjos and one voice. Washburn’s beguiling composing, playing and singing blend with Fleck’s riveting and virtuosic musicianship to create music both unique yet familiar. Banjo superstars Bela Fleck and Abigail Washburn will play a mix of traditional and original songs they've developed together. Fleck has been nominated in more categories than anyone in Grammy history and has won 14 times.
The evening will also feature Del McCoury and David Grisman. The legendary McCoury, also a Grammy winner, is a member of the International Bluegrass Hall of Fame and recently celebrated his 50th year in the music industry. From his early days with Bill Monroe at the Grand Old Opry to his current work with the Del McCoury Band (featuring his two sons), Del has pioneered new avenues for bluegrass music.
Grisman has played with everyone from the Grateful Dead to Stephane Grapelli to Bonnie Raitt, and has recorded more than 40 albums, five of which won Grammy nominations. An ardent innovator, and brilliant mandollinist, he soon gave bluegrass his own personal spin in the form of "dawg" music, a unique, highly intricate, harmonically advanced hybrid of so many different stylistic influences (swing, bluegrass, Latin, jazz, gypsy) that he had to invent a name for it.
